Neuromuscular Massage- Neuromuscular therapy is a form of soft tissue manipulation that aims to treat underlying causes of chronic pain involving the muscular and nervous systems. This medically-oriented form of massage addresses trigger points, circulation, nerve compression, postural issues, and biomechanical problems that can be caused by repetitive movement injuries.
Myofascial Release- Myofascial release therapy focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness. There are a number of conditions and symptoms that myofascial release therapy addresses.
Many patients seek treatment after losing flexibility or function following an injury.
Other conditions treated by myofascial release therapy include Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia or headaches.
Patient symptoms usually include:
Lymphatic Drainage- Lymphatic drainage is a technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph (a fluid that transports white blood cells, oxygen, and nutrients to tissues throughout the body). Lymphatic drainage involves gentle, circular movements.
The lymph system serves as a central part of the immune system.
It is a treatment for lymphedema, arthritis, sinus and allergy issues, orthopedic injuries, knee or hip surgery, chronic venous insufficiency, and swelling and fatigue associated with menopause.
This is not post surgical Lymphatic drainage.
Rehabilitation post joint replacement or injury (see sports massage modalities below)
Pregnancy Massage- Prenatal Massage is therapeutic bodywork that focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of pregnancy. It enhances the function of muscles and joints, improves circulation and general body tone, and relieves mental and physical fatigue.
Orthobionomy- Based on principles of osteopathy, Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive body therapy that can help alleviate chronic muscle tension and stress, soothe the joints, increase flexibility and relax the entire body
Sports Massage- The focus of a sports massage is different from a deep tissue massage, though some of the massage techniques are similar. A sports massage concentrates on either healing a previous activity-caused injury or preventing an injury.
Passive Stretching- The application of Passive Stretch Massage helps to lengthen the fascia increasing circulation to and through it. The release of the fascia's tight grip on muscular, neural and vascular structures creates an increase in the client's range of motion as well as a decrease in discomfort or pain.
Graston Technique- The Graston Technique is a form of manual therapy known as soft-tissue instrument-assisted mobilization. It is one of a number of manual therapy approaches that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage/scraping the skin gently.
The therapy is designed to help the practitioner identify areas of restriction and attempt to break up scar tissue.
The Graston Technique is often practiced by chiropractors, osteopathic physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and some licensed massage therapists and athletic trainers.
The general goals of the therapy are to reduce the patient's pain and increase function through a combination of:
trigger point therapy- Manual Trigger Point Therapy is a manual technique to treat trigger points. It uses strong manual pressure and can be uncomfortable or somewhat painful for the patient. However, as with dry needling, this pain is usually regarded as a "good and releasing pain". A distinction is made between the different Manual Trigger Point Therapy techniques that directly treat the trigger point and the fascia techniques, which affect a larger area on the whole muscle and its fascia.
Cupping- Improves circulation, speeds healing and decreases pain.
Swedish Massage- A Swedish massage is designed to relax the entire body by rubbing the muscles in long, gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But the benefits of Swedish massage go beyond relaxation.
Deep Tissue- Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage but with a deep tissue massage, your therapist applies slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).
Reflexology- There are more than 7,000 nerve endings in each of your feet. And one quarter of all the bones in the human body reside there. So it’s a good idea to give them the attention they deserve. Foot reflexology massage combines elements of traditional Swedish and sports massages. It can be deeply relaxing and beneficial for everyone – not just those suffering from foot or ankle pain.
